Medicare Supplements
Starlight Financial is here to help you navigate Medicare supplements.
Medicare may not cover everything you need, but there are Medicare supplements available to help. At Starlight Financial, we can help you go over what Medicare does and does not cover and help you decide whether you will need to supplement that with additional financial products. There are many types of supplements available, and we can help you decide which would benefit you.
Medicare Supplement Insurance, which is sometimes called Medigap, is a policy that covers some medical costs that are not covered with original Medicare. Private insurance companies carry this type of insurance, and it can include features like deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. For this type of policy, you must have both Part A and Part B of Medicare, and it only covers one person, which could result in an additional premium for Medigap policies. These policies also do not cover everything and may exclude features like vision insurance, dental insurance, or long-term care.
There are
10 types of Medigap insurance available. Plan A is the most common, because any insurance company that sells Medigap insurance is required to offer Plan A. In most states, plans of the same type will have the same standardized benefits. This makes it easy for consumers to compare the policies within the same letter category, because the main difference will be the premium amount. Plans A-N all cover coinsurance hospital costs of Medicare Part A up to 365 days after the Medicare benefits have been exhausted. All of the plans also offer some Medicare Part B copayment or coinsurance and hospice copayment or coinsurance for Medicare Part A. Plan F has the most coverage, and it has a high-deductible option to keep the monthly payment slightly cheaper than it would normally be. Each plan covers things a little differently, so it’s important to go over each one carefully to decide which is right for you.
